MEET THE FOUNDERS

Both having community-centric roots growing up in the heart of the Midwest, we wanted to create a space that incorporated these values along incorporating the artful, urban and diverse vibe of Downtown Phoenix that we now call home. Our passion for what we do is driven through the experiences we create and the commUNITY we operate in. Creating a safe, open and welcoming environment for everyBODY to have a place to build their own practice is our main focus.

I lived in Buckeye, Arizona for the first 10 years of my life and then moved to Lebanon, Missouri. I Iived there for 17 years, but I consider Arizona home.

How did you first get involved with yoga?

I didn’t get involved with yoga until later in life. I was more of a gym rat. It wasn’t until I moved back to Arizona in 2010 that I got involved in yoga when I discovered aerial yoga. That was when I truly found a new appreciation for yoga and understood the connection between mind, body and soul.

What inspired you to open Elevate Yoga?

After the studio I originally started practicing in and eventually started teaching in closed, Amber and I knew we wanted to continue sharing our passion for aerial yoga with others. From there we set out to reestablish on our own, completed our RYT 200 certification, and Elevate Yoga was born!

What is your favorite part of aerial yoga?

My favorite part of aerial yoga is that I feel like a kid again playing on the jungle gym at recess. I get to flip around, do tricks, or just hang in an inversion. I truly enjoy being able to allow others to experience this youthful feeling as well. I love seeing the students feel empowered as they connect to their body and step out of their comfort zone. To me, this is what drives my journey.

What are you up to when you’re not at the studio?

Outside of my a full time job, I try to spending as much time with family and friends as possible! I love to being out in nature so I try to get out and go hiking - exploring the local mountains here in Phoenix (weather permitting). My family enjoys camping and escaping the heat during the summer months so we try to get away for a weekend traveling to the northern parts of Arizona. I also love to see the world so I travel internationally as much as I can!

Hometown

I grew up in a small farming community, in the middle of the cornfield - Bascom, Ohio.

How did you first get involved with yoga?

I was first introduced to yoga in 2005. At first yoga was simply a way to break up the other workouts and classes I was taking at the gym. When I moved to Phoenix in 2008 I was opened up to the many different types of yoga and took my practice into more yoga studios and away from the gym. It was there my practice truly deepened and I found a new appreciation for all that yoga is, mind, body and soul. I enjoyed practicing all forms of yoga from hatha to bikram.

What inspired you to open Elevate Yoga?

My yoga journey moved from the mat to the air in 2015 where I fell in love! Once I took my practice into the silks I knew that I had found my passion. After the studio we practiced in closed, Brandi and I knew we wanted to continue sharing our passion for aerial yoga with others. From there we set out to reestablish on our own, completed our RYT 200 certification, and our Elevate Yoga journey began!

What is your favorite part of aerial yoga?

My favorite part of aerial yoga is that it does not discriminate. Being able to share such an artful form of yoga with every body is an honor. Hearing the stories and seeing the accomplishments from our students each day is the most humbling and rewarding part of the journey. Aside from this, the inversions! Being able to suspend the body and completely decompress the spine is one of my favorite things to do at the end of a long day.
